Annual Picnic, Auction and Meeting

August 16, 2008

at

Douthat State Park

The VFA 2008 HawkTalk journal will be distributed to members

 

Awards for Best Bird, Best Falconry Furniture, and Best Falconry Display

(Please bring your raptor(s) - all are eligible - the more, the better)

(Displays can be your bell &/or hood collection, photo collage, etc.)

 

         Social – 10:00AM - Socializing of members, their raptors and dogs, and interested persons.

We will have access to the Carson picnic shelter in the event it showers or rains.

 

 Lunch Time- 1:00PM - -– VFA supplied hot dogs, burgers & drinks (at the picnic shelter).

Reservations are not required but (unless you bring and consume your own lunch) those that eat the VFA supplied items should bring a side dish of potato salad, vegetables, etc,. or dessert to share

 

Attendees that intend to partake of the VFA supplied items are asked to inform Andrew or Eva King so that sufficient lunch food and drinks can be provided, as well as to indicate what side dish you will bring.

        Falconry Art Displays - During the afternoon - Awards @ 3:00PM

Bring your best artistic effort or efforts

Your drawing, painting, carving, photograph, or homemade equipment qualifies

(Going for another success for this activity -  - the sky is the limit)

(This is our major fundraiser - so bring your money or checkbook and participate)

Directions: to Douthat State Park: From Route I-81, take Route !-64 west at exit 191.  Proceed 29 miles on I-64 and take exit 27 / Clifton Forge and go 0.2 miles on the exit ramp.  Turn right on Douthat Road and go 4.4 miles.  Continue on Douthat Park Road 2.8 miles to arrive at the park.  It’s a trip of about 45 minutes from I-81.

 

 Notes - VFA members, family and guests are welcome to attend all the VFA activities (i.e., the picnic, meeting, art competition, and auction), including an informal gathering at a restaurant for breakfast on Sunday morning.

        It is suggested that you bring some extra-clothing / raingear as it is often cooler & wetter in the mountains.

       Many members will spend the night at the campground or in a cabin.  Hopefully, this notice will prompt you to make your campsite / cabin reservations at 540 862-8100 for the Bash on 16 August 2008.
